Project Components
Transit

Previous evaluations have concluded that rail transit is not required across the First Narrows. However, given the nature of the New Lions Gate project, rail transit has been made an integral (indeed vital) component of the proposal.

With an estimated resident population of 10,000 people, 300,000 m2 of office and retail space, a full range of communiy and regional amenities and a location serving not only as a major link between the North Shore and Downtown (as well as between Park Royal and, potentially, Lonsdale Quay), but also as a catalyst for futher development around Park Royal, we believe that swift and frequent transit service of the standard offered by Skytrain is required to achieve the regional goal of decreased automobile dependence, and further that the nature of this proposal will render such a service successful.

Initially, at least, the following alignment is proposed

With future extension from Park Royal to

and thence, pari passu with development, to

Initially one would expect this service to run on from the existing Skytrain line, using Waterfront as a Y stop. As the situation evolves, however, it might be anticipated that this service be linked to the proposed line which really should serve Concord Pacific, Granville Island, YVR and Richmond Centre.

In addition, if contemplating a 100 year horizon, one might consider an extension of the northern end of this service back to Waterfront via the 2nd Narrows, serving the Hastings corridor and future development along both shores of Burrard inlet.
