Bridges
Double Deck Existing Bridge
Netupsky Engineering Co.ltd.
- Double cable suspension bridge, Tower modifications, (6 lanes)
Current bridge & causeway alignment retained
~$150 million
- -Retains basic appearance of bridge
-Strengthening of foundations
-Modifications to towers, with new cables and stiffening trusses added to the outside of the existing bridge used to carry new upper deck
-Replacement of present deck and stiffening trusses after installation of upper deck.
-Stanley Park causeway to be double decked - either elevated or buried
Double Deck Existing Bridge

Paul Merrick Architects Ltd.
- Cable-stayed modification with retention of existing suspension cables (6 lanes)

- -Existing Marine Drive interchange via double-decked structure on existing alignment to Georgia St.
-Second level below ground in Stanley Park
-Traffic maintained during construction
-Existing suspension cables retained as a reflection of their historic symbolism

Refurbish Existing Bridge

- Deck replacement scheme (5 or 6 lanes on existing alignment)
Bridge: ~$80 million
Viaduct: ~$20 million
- -Maintain existing towers and general appearance
-Install new cables, hangers, and bridge deck as closely as possible to underside of the existing bridge, remove present deck, then raise new bridge to existing level
-Four lanes beneath existing Stanley Park causeway
-Widen existing North Shore viaduct.
Tunnels
First Narrows Tunnels

- Tunnel under First Narrows and Stanley Park (2x2 lanes)
~$350 million
- -Twin Bored Tunnels:
- West end of Georgia Street under Stanley Park to Marine Drive Lions Gate Bridge interchange in West Vancouver
- Tunnel driven in rock and soil by tunnel boring machine
- Length each tunnel: ~4,000m
- Lions Gate Bridge could be retained for 2-lane transit plus pedestrians/bicycles
First Narrows 'Zoo' Tunnel

- Tunnel under First Narrows, Stanley Park & Coal Harbour (6 lanes, including 2 HOV lanes)
$350 - $400 million
- - Marine Drive (Capilano Rd.) to Georgia St. emerging in Devonian Park near Denman St.
- Submerged tunnel in excavated trench across First Narrows
- Cut-and-Cover tunnel under Capilano Rd. through IR#5
- Cut-and-Cover tunnel under Stanley Park on alignment of Lumberman's Arch and existing Zoo road
- Cut-and-Cover tunnel under Coal Harbour
- ~3,000m Tunnel; ~4,000m Overall length
Brockton Point Tunnel

- Tunnel under Burrard Inlet (6 lanes + 2 transit tracks)
$1,200 million
- - Upper Levels to downtown Vancouver (Thurlow area) and bypass tunnels to False Creek bridge heads
- Main crossing to be tunnel in excavated trench
- Bored tunnels beneath downtown Vancouver
- 150 acre island created off Brockton Point from excavated material, 100 acres of which could be developed for commercial / residential land and provide for project funding.
