How Many Lanes?
How Many Lanes Do We Need?
- Traffic delays are concentrated on the approaches; efforts should be focused on HOV/bus queue jumper lanes.
- Forecast bus volumes do not justify the cost ($10M - $15M) of providing an additional bus-only lane as part of an expanded crossing. However the joint use of exclusive lanes for bus plus HOV's is a possibility in the future.
- Five or six lane facilities (with the 5th or 6th lanes being for the exclusive use of buses/HOV's) appear to have major adverse impacts compared to a four lane facility.
- All laning configurationsare to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians.
