Built in 1938, Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge is no longer entirely able to serve adequately the traffic demands imposed on it, is subject to rising maintenance costs, and is in need of major remedial work. Accordingly, various options are being studied by the province in order to determine how best to handle the whole matter of the First Narrows Crossing for the next century.
